Apply to Villanova Because They Won the NCAA?

There are a lot of factors that should be considered when selecting a college or university. Specific academic programs, school size, and geography are all reasonable things to evaluate.

But athletic championships, unless a student is a gifted and recruited athlete, should certainly not be as important as the academic considerations.

I’m delighted that Villanova won the NCAA championship this week — they had a great tournament and all involved should be proud of their accomplishments. But I hope that students will not apply to Villanova just because of their March madness success.

As usual, you can read my thoughts here on the National Review higher education blog Phi Beta Cons.
