Welcome to College – Your Career Starts Now!
I am happy to announce that I have just published a handbook that I sincerely hope will help students better integrate their college years with their longer term career objectives. It is based on my observations over the years of what makes students and employees standout from the crowd, and achieve high levels of success.
If you can excuse my lack of humility, I am reproducing here the general publication notice that is being used for the book. Since this is a self-published book, I depend upon word of mouth to help reach students who might benefit from reading it.
In the profile below are contained ways in which the book might be ordered. Since it is a new title, Amazon and Barnes/Noble take time to assess order patters and establish inventory levels. They will begin shipping in April. The publisher (store.bookbaby.com) ships in about a week from order date.
If you read and like the book, please recommend it to others who might have students that could benefit. Now the “promo”…..
For every student, a successful transition into college, and the subsequent transition from college to career, are critically important. Written by an author who has had long experience in both the corporate and academic worlds, “Welcome to College – Your Career Starts Now!” is the ideal handbook to help guide students through both transitions, while giving good advice on how to integrate the college years into the process of determining one’s career.
Many students arrive on the college campus in a state of confusion and uncertainty. They wonder how they should select their major, which elective courses to choose, how to determine a career path, how to interview effectively and how to make the best use of internships and study abroad opportunities.
Just as important for them is to understand how to project an image as serious students, and how to develop the personal skill sets and behavior patterns they will need in both their college and career years.
Vic Brown has drawn upon his extensive experience as a corporate executive and college faculty member, and imparts excellent advice on how to integrate coursework, internships and other activities into a focused preparation for long term career success.
The author does not stop at college graduation. He continues to offer practical guidance to the new graduates while they navigate their way through the first several years of their careers.
Brown’s use of real-world examples on campus and in the workplace provides a wonderful way for the reader to understand the importance of the advice he offers, and this handbook is essential reading for college students at all stages of their education, for new members of the work force, and even as a refresher for those well along in their careers.
Parents, high school guidance counselors, college admissions and career services staff, as well as faculty, will all be interested in the practical guidance offered in this focused, easy to read, and entertaining volume.
The reviews are in, from both the academic and business worlds………
“Vic Brown’s book is a practical gem, combining insight and experience with wonderful storytelling. It answers questions that nearly every student has about career and work but few ask. It also calls for civility and reason in academia and the workplace. I believe it should be required reading in every undergraduate business school.”

“Sage advice from Vic’s years as a highly respected corporate executive and academic instructor. This book provides a valuable blueprint and timely action plan to develop the traits that recruiters want to see. I recommend it not only to current and future job seekers but to all employees as a refresher on how best to interact in the business world.
